Public speaking – analyzing pictures
What I am sharing with you are two pictures that you can use as a stimulation material for discussion about public speaking.
One picture presents Martin Luther King giving a speech. The other shows Adolf Hitler also giving a speech. The latter figure is generally considered to be a tyrant, mass-murderer and a negative person, so exercise caution when using the pictures!
I recommend that you use the picture with adult classes only.
Task
1) Divide learners into pairs. A's receive the picture of Martin Luther King, B's receive the picture of Adolf Hitler. Instruct the students not to show the pictures to each other.
Get them to describe their pictures to their partners and guess who they are describing.
2) Elicit differences between the two historical figures.
3) Elicit similarities (both are regarged to have been good public speakers, which helped them fight for their cause).
