“Speed Dating” – speaking task idea

I’ve used this many times and it’s easily the most popular speaking activity there is.
Best for classes of 10 or more. Very simple exercise to get the students talking. Don’t tell them what’s going to happen.
Idealy the class is split 50% male and female but if not, ask before you start if any of them would like to play the opposite gender for 20 mins.
Get the students to write down 5 -7 attributes that they think are the most important for a potential partner in question form.
Set out two lines of chairs and away you go. Give them 4 mins. with each person.
(I give everyone a fictional English name on a sticky label.)
