The lesson is about 45 minutes in length. It begins with a reading passage based on an interesting topic that has a connection with Britain, British people or culture. The reading presents 12 phrasal verbs used in an authentic context.
The students then complete a gap fill exercise and find synonyms to check their understanding of the phrasal verbs.
There are interesting photos for picture speculation and plenty of opportunities to generate further discussion.
Further written work can be completed based on the phrasal verbs given.
The original product is accompanied by MP3 audio.

Draw a street with two rows of houses facing each other on the whiteboard. Explain it’s a street in New York (or even better, the city your students live in) where they live and that they are nosy neighbours who love gossiping. You might need to explain what "nosy" stands for.Label the houses in one row: No 1 – four girls, No 2 – the Smiths, No 3 – the Browns, No 4 – the Greens, No 6 – the Blacks, No 7 – the Whites, No 8 – the Golds, No 9 – the Greys, No 5 – new neighbours. Tell students they live in the opposite row.Divide the students into two groups – in groups they receive copies of the houses (houses.pdf) and one description each where they have some information about what is going on in one of the houses (nosy_neoghbors_desc.pdf). It’s now 6 pm.
The objective of the game is to find out what is happening in House number 5. Students read their descriptions and decide which pictures are referred to in that description. They draw a line connecting the people described with the house they live in. They learn their descriptions by heart. Then they move around the class gossiping and telling "nosy neighbours" from their group what is happening in the houses in the row.
They should react with interest – e.g. Really? You must be joking! I can’t believe it! They connect people with houses in the same way.
Nobody has a description for House number 5. When learners have finished, one picture will be left showing what is going on in this house, what their new neighbours are doing (having a party). ...
